Franklin Station Development: A Milestone in Building Homes Where Calgarians Can Thrive
At Onward, we know that when people have access to safe, stable, and affordable homes, entire communities flourish. That’s why we’re proud to share news of our latest partnership with the City of Calgary; one that will bring approximately 350 new homes to life as part of the Franklin Station Area Improvements project.
Announced on May 14, 2025, this initiative is a powerful example of what’s possible when government and community partners come together with a shared purpose: to build a more inclusive, connected, and affordable Calgary.
What’s happening at Franklin Station?
Located along Calgary’s LRT network, Franklin Station will soon be home to a vibrant, mixed-use development centered on transit-oriented design. That means homes built near reliable public transit, making it easier for residents to live affordably and access the opportunities that help them thrive.
Through this project, Onward will deliver approximately 350 new homes, with half of the units offered below market rent. These homes will serve a diverse mix of Calgarians, from seniors and families to newcomers, equity-deserving individuals, and others experiencing housing insecurity. With a variety of unit types, including three-bedroom homes and universally accessible suites, this development is about much more than buildings — it’s about belonging.
Backed by investment in affordability
This project aligns with Home is Here: The City of Calgary’s Housing Strategy. It’s a bold step forward in addressing our city’s housing needs, with a focus on long-term affordability and smart growth.
By leveraging city-owned land near major transit, The City and Onward are demonstrating how public assets can be used to create lasting public benefit — housing that is affordable, accessible, and built for the future.
“We’re not just building housing — we’re building community. And that’s what this project is all about,” says Bryan Romanesky, Chair of Onward’s Board of Directors.
Rooted in community. Built to last.
From the very beginning, community engagement will be at the heart of this project. We’re committed to listening to residents and working alongside local organizations to ensure the Franklin development is welcomed, inclusive, and enriching for the entire area.
And because Onward is a nonprofit and charitable housing provider, these homes will remain affordable in perpetuity — reinforcing our promise to create homes that support dignity, stability, and well-being for generations to come.
We’re excited to keep moving Onward and to continue building a city where every Calgarian has a place to call home.
