Join our Board!

We are looking for new Board members!

Do you have a passion for building a vibrant community? Are you interested in being a champion for homes for all Calgarians?

About Onward

Onward is one of Calgary’s largest not-for-profit, community housing providers. We are an owner, developer, and an asset and property manager. We recently merged Forward and Horizon for greater impact, together.

At Onward, we know that with homes for all, people and communities thrive. We build and own affordable and well-cared-for homes – the foundation for well-being and belonging.

With 1,700 affordable homes, an ambitious strategic plan for growth, and a dedicated team, we are well-positioned to make a meaningful difference.

Applying the mixed-income model to create diverse and inclusive communities, Calgarians from all walks of life make their homes with us: seniors, families, youth, recent immigrants, and those with limited incomes and experiencing various challenges. We partner with social service providers to refer and provide supports to our residents.

About the Opportunity

Onward is looking for three community leaders to join our Board of Directors this fall.

With commitment to inclusion, the Board’s composition aims to reflect the diversity of the Calgary community and the residents we serve.

Our Board members possess a combination of personal and professional attributes, competencies, and experiences that contribute to carrying out our governance, stewardship and advocacy functions.

We are looking for committed and strategic leaders who are relationship builders and community connectors, with backgrounds in one of following areas:

  • Legal expertise

  • Accounting and finance

  • Fund development

  • Governance

  • Public policy and government relations

  • Real estate acquisitions, development and management

  • Strategic planning

  • Community and affordable housing

  • Social enterprise

The Board Directors are appointed for terms up to three years and the appointments may be renewed to a maximum of six years. As volunteers, Directors commit approximately five to eight hours per month to Board-related activities, including Board and Committee meetings and Onward events. Directors are expected to serve on one of the Board committees (Governance, Finance & Audit, Growth & Development, Engagement & Communications). Previous Board governance experience is not required; however, the incoming Board Directors must understand and demonstrate the qualities of a strong governor.
